It is important to remember that in squaring a negative number, the negative must be inside of parentheses. Notice the difference between and as entered below:

Other exponents may be entered using the ^ key. For example, is entered as 5 ^ 4.

Warning: When the key is pressed, only the power appears on the screen. In order to enter , first press , then press .

If there are more than one factor or term in the exponent, parentheses are needed. For example, 52+3 must be entered as 5^(2+3).
