Calculating Percent Change

The problem: Find the percent change if a quantity changes from price to price . Round the answer to the nearest tenth of a percent when rounding is required.

a). = $20, = $27

b). = $1.89, = $1.56

Recall that the percent change is given by , where is the old price and is the new price.

For part a), the percent change is = = .35 = 35%.


For part b), the percent change, = = - .1746031746 = - 17.5% (to the nearest tenth).
